Strains of gasteroid fungi are capable of oxidizing phenolic components and producing enzymes of great commercial value. However, the difficulty in producing biomass and, consequently, the low levels of expression of enzymes produced by these fungi hinder the advancement of biotechnological studies.

New records and notes on gasteroid fungi of arid lands in Argentina

A survey of gasteroid fungi from arid regions in the La Rioja province (northwestern Argentina) resulted in 20 species of 13 genera. Each species is briefly commented on and descriptions are provided for taxa poorly known or with few records in the world.

A study on the spore morphology of gasteroid fungi collected from Trabzon

Fruiting bodies were collected in Trabzon province in 2009 and 2010. Macroscopic and microscopic studies were performed on the dried specimens. Surface structures of the spores of Geastrum rufescens Pers. (Geastraceae Corda), Lycoperdon molle Pers. and L. umbrinum Pers. (Agaricaceae Chevall.) were illuminated under scanning electron microscope.
