Surgical Endoscopy, 1996
The present report describes the technical details of laparoscopic bypass for morbid obesity. The laparoscopic approach was attempted in eight patients and completed in six. In these latter patients the stomach was divided with an endoscopic linear cutter (ETC 60 Ethicon), and a antecolic jejunal loop was brought to the proximal pouch and anastomosed by

Internal hernia trends following gastric bypass surgery
Surgical Endoscopy, 2023Internal hernia is a well-known complication of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB), with reported rates ~ 5% within three months to three years after surgery. Internal hernia through a mesenteric defect can lead to small bowel obstruction. Mesenteric defects began to be more routinely closed, often considered standard practice by 2010.

Delayed inflammatory leukoencephalopathy after gastric bypass surgery
Clinical Neuropathology, 2018We describe an unusual leukoencephalopathy in a female who developed global language and memory difficulties as well as diffuse FLAIR lesions in the cerebral white matter (WM) ~ 30 months after bariatric surgery. She had no detectable nutritional deficiency. She died suddenly due to cardiovascular disease.

Urinary sodium excretion after gastric bypass surgery
Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, 2017Gut-kidney signaling is implicated in sodium homeostasis and thus blood pressure regulation. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery for morbid obesity confers a pronounced and long-lasting blood pressure lowering effect in addition to significant weight loss.We set out to establish whether RYGB is associated with an intrinsic change in urinary sodium ...

Beriberi after gastric bypass surgery in adolescence
The Journal of Pediatrics, 2004We report three cases of dry beriberi in adolescents who underwent gastric bypass surgery for clinically severe obesity. The key to successful treatment of this problem lies in prompt recognition and thiamine supplementation.

Laparoscopic Banded Gastric Bypass Surgery
2016The laparoscopic banded gastric bypass is a modified gastric bypass operation with a controlled reservoir formed by placing a ring or band around the gastric pouch. The placement of the ring prevents the formation of the neo-pouch that forms after gastric bypass operations, when the pouch, stoma and proximal jejunum dilate over time.

Expectations and Outcomes with Gastric Bypass Surgery
Obesity Surgery, 2006Bariatric surgery is widely accepted as the effective treatment option for morbid obesity. However, the extant literature does not provide mental health clinicians with consistent guidance for evaluating candidates for surgery, nor for preparing patients for postsurgical adjustment.

Long-Term Mortality after Gastric Bypass Surgery
New England Journal of Medicine, 2007Although gastric bypass surgery accounts for 80% of bariatric surgery in the United States, only limited long-term data are available on mortality among patients who have undergone this procedure as compared with severely obese persons from a general population. In this retrospective cohort study, we determined the long-term mortality (from 1984 to 2002)

Life Expectancy Benefits of Gastric Bypass Surgery
Surgical Innovation, 2006Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for achieving sustained weight loss in morbidly obese patients. Although the use of gastric bypass is growing rapidly, the potential life expectancy benefits of the procedure are unknown. We created a Markov decision analysis model to examine the effect of gastric bypass surgery on life expectancy in ...

Predictors of Outcome after Gastric Bypass Surgery
Obesity Surgery, 2007Weight loss outcome predictions after gastric bypass (GBP) surgery based on individual findings have shown relatively little consistency. The present study took a more comprehensive approach, utilizing extensive pre-surgery interview and psychological test data both individually and in composite predictors.Pre-surgery data were obtained for 131 ...
