The Evolution in Understanding the Physiological Causes of Dyspnoea in Large Hiatal Herniation: A Narrative Review

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The symptomatology of large hiatus hernia (LHH) has been historically poorly understood, with cardiorespiratory symptoms caused by LHH being underappreciated by clinicians. A Review of Linear Stapled‐Sutured Intrathoracic Oesophago‐Gastric Anastomosis by a Single Surgeon Over Three Decades

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper describes the technique of performing an intrathoracic linear stapled/sutured anastomosis between the oesophagus and gastric conduit. It analyses the outcome from a single surgeon working at two co‐located hospitals. Method A retrospective review of prospectively collected data was performed.

Roux‐en‐Y Reconstruction After Esophagectomy for Postoperative Functional Complaints: A Case Series

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Functional complaints affect half of esophagectomy patients, with no standard treatment. In nine patients, Roux‐en‐Y reconstruction for obstruction, redundant conduit, and weight loss was safely performed, with one major complication and no Grade 4 out of five events. Complete symptom resolution reached 67% at 3 months and 89% at 1 year.

Congenital paraesophageal hiatus hernia with gastric volvulus

open access: yesJournal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, 2008
Paraesophageal hiatus hernia is rarely seen in the neonatal period. An intrathoracic gastric volvulus complicating such a hernia is rarer. The upper gastrointestinal tract contrast study is diagnostic. Rapid diagnosis and treatment is essential.

Pathophysiology of Delayed Gastric Conduit Emptying After Oesophagectomy: A Multicentre Cohort Study

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
In this multicentre study of 272 patients, early and late delayed gastric conduit emptying after oesophagectomy emerged as distinct phenotypes. Early DGCE was predicted by open surgery, whereas late DGCE was predicted by GOJ tumour location and postoperative complications.

Severe Abdominal Aortic Calcification in Pancreaticoduodenectomy: A Vascular Frailty Marker for Selecting Total Pancreatectomy?

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Severe abdominal aortic calcification on preoperative CT may identify vascular frailty in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy. Integrated with fistula‐risk scores and frailty assessment, it may inform discussion of standard PD versus planned total pancreatectomy in selected high‐risk patients, while AAC alone is not an indication for TP ...

Prospective randomised double‐blind trial: holmium laser lithotripsy with vs without Moses™ 2.0

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objective To assess the effect of Moses™ 2.0 (Lumenis Be Ltd., Yokneam Illit, Israel; Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA) for lithotripsy of renal stones of 8–20 mm in diameter on operative time, surgeon workload, and retropulsion. Subjects/Patients and Methods In our multicentre, randomised, double‐blind clinical trial, patients were randomised 1:
