Measurement of gastric emptying in diabetes
Journal of Diabetes and its Complications, 2014There has been a substantial evolution of concepts related to disordered gastric emptying in diabetes. While the traditional focus has hitherto related to the pathophysiology and management of upper gastrointestinal symptoms associated with gastroparesis, it is now apparent that the rate of gastric emptying is central to the regulation of postprandial ...

Gastric Emptying, Diabetes, and Aging
Clinics in Geriatric Medicine, 2007Gastric emptying is mildly slowed in healthy aging, although generally remains within the normal range for young people. The significance of this is unclear, but may potentially influence the absorption of certain drugs, especially when a rapid effect is desired.

Peripartum changes in gastric emptying
Anaesthesia, 1992SummaryApplied potential tomography was ilsed to measure changes in gastric emptying during the peripartum period. Gastric emptying was measured sequentially in each of 10 healthy patients at 37–40 weeks gestation, 2–3 days postpartum and after the 6‐week postnatal assessment (control),‘Aean (SD) times to 50% emptying were 15 (6.05), 11 (5.9) and 15 (5.

CHOLECYSTOKININ AND GASTRIC EMPTYING
Nutrition Reviews, 2009Protease inhibitors and peptone, which are potent stimulators of cholecystokinin release, slow gastric emptying time in rats. The cholecystokinin antagonist L364,718 reverses this effect.

Control of gastric emptying by gastric tone
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 1994During ingestion of food, the stomach relaxes to accommodate the meal and, subsequently, a progressive gastric contraction parallels gastric emptying. Intestinal nutrients trigger feedback relaxatory mechanisms that regulate gastric tone and, hence, the nutrient load delivered into the small intestine.

Human nutrition. Clinical nutrition, 1986
The gastric emptying, expressed as the half-emptying time (T1/2) and mean transit time (MTT90), in 31 obese and 21 control women was studied using a radionuclide technique. No correlation between body weight and body surface area and gastric emptying rates could be found.
