Intranasal pH and Olfactory Function Among Healthy Adults
The Laryngoscope, EarlyView.In this cross‐sectional study of 62 adults, olfactory cleft (OC) pH was lower than that over the respiratory mucosa (RM), with repeated testing resulting in more alkaline pH and olfactory testing having no effect. OC pH, but not RM pH, was negatively correlated with odor identification scores and predicted 18% of the variance in these scores.

Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1963 SummaryGastrin prepared from the stomach of hogs stimulated secretion of acid when injected subcutaneously into rats with gastric fistulas. The highest rate of secretion attained with gastrin was more than double the maximal rate in response to histamine.

Bariatric Surgery Lowers Incidence of Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
The Laryngoscope, EarlyView.Obesity is associated with an increased risk of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and increased recurrence of CRS after functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). This study found that in patients with obesity, undergoing bariatric surgery decreases the risk of new‐encounter diagnoses of CRS and results in fewer FESS.
