Gastric and duodenal cutaneous fistulas

World Journal of Surgery, 1983
AbstractForty‐seven patients, 18 with gastric and 29 with duodenal cutaneous fistulas, managed at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 1956 and 1976 are analyzed. This is done with the intention of defining factors responsible for increased rates of morbidity and mortality.

Postoperative gastric fistula

Hellenic Journal of Surgery, 2010
The aim of this study is to highlight the modern diagnostic tools and treatment options for this surgical complication which, if not addressed, could prove life-threatening. Gastric and small bowel fistulas

The American Journal of Surgery, 1969
Abstract Fifty-five cases of small bowel-cutaneous fistulas are presented. The majority of these are iatrogenic, resulting from failure in surgical technics. Morbidity is excessive with long complicated hospitalization. Early aggressive surgical intervention, particularly in lower tract fistulas, provides the best cure rate.

Gastric emptying in rats with chronic gastric fistulas

The American Journal of Digestive Diseases, 1969
A technic for studying gastric emptying using phenol red test meals in rats with chronic gastric fistulas was shown to yield valid and reproducible data. This method has the advantage of utilizing a chronic, unanesthetized, unrestrained animal, which may also be used to study gastric secretion.

Gastric Secretion in the Chronic Fistula Ferret

Gastroenterology, 1969
Gastric secretion was studied in the chronic fistula, young adult ferret in order to evaluate the potential of this carnivorous laboratory animal as a model for peptic ulcer and other gastric diseases. During basal, fasting conditions the ferret was a secretor of gastric hydrochloric acid and proteolytic enzymes. Fluid output averaged 1.7 ml per hr per

The Effect of Pancreatic Fistula on Gastric Secretion

Archives of Surgery, 1959
Zollinger and Ellison first called attention to instances of recurrent peptic ulceration associated with islet cell tumors of the pancreas. 1 These were characterized by hyperacidity and hypersecretion of acid gastric juice and not controlled by vagotomy and extensive gastric resection.

A chronic gastric fistula for rats

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1964
We tested various kinds of gastric fistulae (for rats) made of different materials, and a sturdy model was designed capable of functioning for many months. Its main part consisted of polythene “feet” placed between the serous coat and the internal surface of the abdominal wall.

Influence of a Jejunal Fistula on Gastric Emptying

European Surgical Research, 1987
The aim was to determine whether a proximal jejunal fistula would speed gastric emptying after truncal vagotomy and Roux distal gastrectomy. Eight vagotomy-gastrectomy dogs were studied; 4 had a jejunal fistula, and 4 other dogs without a fistula served as controls.

Gastrojejunal fistula caused by gastric ulcer

Journal of Gastroenterology, 1998
We report a case of gastrojejunal fistula caused by benign gastric ulcer, a very rare condition. The patient was an 81-year-old-woman who had had multiple recurrences of gastric ulcer. She also had diabetes mellitus. She was admitted to our hospital because of a left femoral head fracture, necessitating a mechanical bone head exchange operation.
