Nederlands tijdschrift voor geneeskunde, 2015Gastric volvulus in children is rare and can be life-threatening if not recognised in time.A 3.5-year-old boy presented to his GP with severe, non-bilious vomiting, abdominal distension and abdominal pain. Additional diagnostic tests showed hypochloraemic alkalosis and abdominal ultrasonography suggested gastric volvulus.

The possibility of gastric volvulus has to be considered in light of the severity of the condition and its relatively rare occurrence. Contrast esophagography and swallow in the lateral projection will confirm the diagnosis.
