Synthesis and Properties of Macrocyclic Butanoic Acid Conjugates as a Promising Delivery Formulation for the Nutrition of Colon

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Butanoic acid plays a significant role in the maintenance of mucosal health and is the preferred energy substrate for the cells in the colon. Here, butanoic acid was selectively conjugated to the secondary hydroxyl group of β-cyclodextrin through ester ...

First record of microplastics in two freshwater fish species (Iheringhthys labrosus and Astyanax lacustris) from the middle section of the Uruguay River, Brazil

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2020
Aim The aim was to analyze the incidence of microplastics in the diet of fish in the middle Uruguay River. Methods The present work analyzed the gastrointestinal content of two species: Astyanax lacustris and Iheringichthys labrosus. Results This study

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Nitrogen Content of Gastrointestinal Tracts of Rats During Absorptive Period.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1958
Summary1) The basal level of endogenously supplied nitrogen in adult rats is about 5 mg after 1 1/2 hours, and this level is unaffected by protein depletion. On feeding skim milk powder, 22–27% of the ingested protein disappeared from the gastrointestinal tract within 3 hours.

Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

Effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Acupoint Stimulation on Post-surgical Gastrointestinal Function,Autonomic Nerve Activities and Plasma Brain-gut Peptide Levels in Patients Undergoing Gastrointestinal Surgery

open access: yes针刺研究, 2016
Objective To observe the effect of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)on ileus-postoperative gastrointestinal functions and plasma ghrelin, motilin, and gastrin contents, and heart rate variability(HRV)in patients undergoing ...

Ultrasound assessment of gastrointestinal luminal contents: a narrative review

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound
AbstractGastro-intestinal ultrasound (GIUS) is a non-invasive and cost-effective tool, widely used as a first-line diagnostic method in patients presenting with abdominal complaints, especially in patients affected by inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In this setting, gastro-intestinal ultrasound has been

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.
