High Fe and Ca contents contribute to geologically-high As but bioaccessibly-low As in karstic residential soils

open access: yesSoil & Environmental Health
Karstic soils are often naturally-high in As contents, primarily due to the secondary enrichment during soil weathering from carbonate rocks. However, the As risk via soil exposure for residents in karst areas remains unclear. In this study, we collected

Role of Intestinal Bitter Sensing in Enteroendocrine Hormone Secretion and Metabolic Control

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
The gastrointestinal tract stores ingested nutrients in the stomach which are then delivered to the small intestine at a controlled rate to optimize their digestion and absorption. The interaction of nutrients with the small and large intestine generates

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Long‐Term Efficacy of Immunotherapy in Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy—A 10‐Year Follow Up Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy (AAG) is a rare but potentially treatable cause of severe autonomic failure. Evidence guiding long‐term immunotherapy, treatment sequencing, and residual autonomic impairment is limited. We evaluated long‐term treatment response, residual autonomic dysfunction, and relapse patterns in patients with

Reducing the protein content in diets for weaner pigs to control post-weaning diarrhoea: physiological and metabolic responses of the gastrointestinal tract

open access: yes, 2010
A series of experiments was conducted with weaner pigs to examine the effects of dietary protein content, duration of feeding diets after weaning and enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) infection on physiological and metabolic responses of the ...

Efficacy of Inebilizumab in N‐MOmentum Trial Participants With or Without Prior Immunosuppressants

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This post hoc analysis examined the impact of prior immunosuppressants on the long‐term efficacy and safety of inebilizumab, a cluster of differentiation 19+ B‐cell–depleting monoclonal antibody, in participants with aquaporin‐4–seropositive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder from the N‐MOmentum trial (NTC02200770).
