Microbial recognition by GEF-H1 controls IKKε mediated activation of IRF5
The transcription factor IRF5 is essential for immune defense against pathogens. Here, the authors show that the microtubule-associated factor GEF-H1 plays a critical role in host defense against Listeria monocytogenes in macrophages via activation of ...

Gastrointestinal Diseases of the Ferret
Gastrointestinal (GI) disease is common in pet ferrets. According to Delaney, unique ferret anatomy and physiology, including rapid GI transit time, and short, simple GI tract predisposes to GI disease [1]. Etiologies include bacteria, including helicobacter infections, virus, parasites, inflammatory conditions, neoplasia, foreign body-related diseases,

In patients treated with atezolizumab as a part of the MyPathway (NCT02091141) trial, pre‐treatment ctDNA tumor fraction at high levels was associated with poor outcomes (radiographic response, progression‐free survival, and overall survival) but better sensitivity for blood tumor mutational burden (bTMB).

Contribution of galectin-1, a glycan-binding protein, to gastrointestinal tumor progression [PDF]
Gastrointestinal cancer is a group of tumors that affect multiple sites of the digestive system, including the stomach, liver, colon and pancreas. These cancers are very aggressive and rapidly metastasize, thus identifying effective targets is crucial ...

Genomics‐led approach to drug testing in models of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma
GA text Genomic data from undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma patients and preclinical models were used to inform a targeted drug screen. Selected compounds were tested in 2D and 3D cultures of UPS cell lines. A combination of trametinib and infigratinib was synergistic in the majority of UPS cell lines tested, which was further confirmed in an ex ...

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

Gut microbiome: a new player in gastrointestinal disease
The gastrointestinal (GI) tract harbors a diverse and host-specific gut microbial community. Whereas host-microbe interactions are based on homeostasis and mutualism, the microbiome also contributes to disease development.

Cotargeting EGFR and STAT3 with Erlotinib and TTI‐101 impairs both 2D and 3D growth of ETV1‐overexpressing prostate cancer cells by disrupting a self‐sustaining ETV1–EGFR positive feedback loop that promotes EGFR and STAT3 expression and phosphorylation (activation).
