Acute gastrointestinal haemorrhage: the role of the radiologist

open access: yes, 2011
Acute gastrointestinal (GI) haemorrhage is a frequent and potentially life threatening medical presentation, the management of which depends on more than one speciality.

Uhrf1‐Mediated PKM2 Degradation via Ubiquitination Alleviates Inflammation and Pyroptosis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Uhrf1‐mediated PKM2 ubiquitination and degradation repressed the nuclear translocation of PKM2, and EPT served as a molecular glue capable of targeting the Uhrf1–PKM2 complex to alleviate the IBD course, suggesting that the Uhrf1–PKM2 axis was a previously unrecognized strategy for treating IBD.

Oral Nanomicelle‐Mediated Sequential Butyrate Production in the Intestine for Ulcerative Colitis and Immunosuppression Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
After oral administration, inodorous GLU‐BA self‐assembles into nanomicelles in aqueous environments to resist premature gastric adsorption. Upon reaching the intestine, endogenous esterases rapidly cleave the built‐in ester bonds in these nanomicelles to release BA and GLU, with GLU further metabolized by gut microbiota to gradually generate BA ...

AHR‐Responsive Carbon Dots Orchestrate Skin Wound Healing and Colonic Mucosal Repair via Treg‐Mediated Macrophage Efferocytosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Guided by pharmacophore modeling and molecular docking, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR)‐responsive carbon dots were synthesized. They bind directly to AHR and expand gut‐resident regulatory T (Treg) cells. Treg‐derived C‐C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CCL1) enhances macrophage efferocytosis, creating a pro‐regenetative niche that promotes colonic mucosal ...

Multifunctional Zinc Glycyrrhizinate‐Integrated Gel for Enhanced Probiotic Delivery and Alleviation of Acute and Spontaneous Colitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multifunctional oral delivery system—L. reuteri@ZGM—act as both a carrier and therapeutic adjuvant, providing ROS scavenging, and mucin‐interactive properties tailored to the IBD microenvironment. This bioactive gel safeguards L. reuteri from gastric degradation, enhances mucosal adhesion, and promotes long‐term retention at inflamed sites, thereby ...

Assembled Hyaluronic Acid Therapeutics for Targeting M1 Macrophages and Regulating Immune Homeostasis for Ulcerative Colitis Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An orally administered, drug‐free hyaluronic acid nanoassembly, uhNAs‐OA, accumulates in the inflamed colon and is preferentially internalized by M1‐like macrophages via HA‐CD44 interactions. uhNAs‐OA scavenges excess ROS, suppresses NF‐κB signaling and remodels the colonic immune landscape, resulting in robust therapeutic efficacy in acute, chronic ...

Superselective embolisation in acute lower gastrointestinal haemorrhage: a single institution experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Superselective embolisation has been recognised as integral in the management of lower gastrointestinal haemorrhage. It has also reduced the need for emergency surgery.

Acute esophageal necrosis: a case report and review

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2013
Acute esophageal necrosis, commonly referred to as "black esophagus" or "acute necrotizing esophagitis", is a rare clinical disorder with an unclear etiology. The definition excludes patients with a history of recent caustic ingestion.
