Anthelmintic Activity of Albendazole Against Gastrointestinal Nematodes in Calves

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1977
SUMMARY Anthelmintic activities of albendazole were evaluated in a controlled experiment. Forty calves experimentally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes were allotted to 4 groups. Calves in group 1 were used as nonmedicated controls; calves in groups 2, 3, and 4 were given (by oral route) a suspension containing albendazole at dose concentrations

Six costs of immunity to gastrointestinal nematode infections

Parasite Immunology, 2007
SUMMARY The strength of the immune response and the outcome of the interaction of a host with a parasite are influenced by genetic and phenotypic characteristics of both parties, and by environmental variables. Allocation of host resources to immune defence reduces resources available for other life‐history traits.

Gastrointestinal nematodes: the Karkar experience.

Papua and New Guinea medical journal, 1998
This paper reviews our research on the hookworm Necator americanus over several years. Our field site for the research was on Karkar Island, Papua New Guinea, where we found a prevalence of N. americanus infection among adults of nearly 100%. The intensity of infection was related to host age and to the development of iron deficiency anaemia, which ...

[Biology of gastrointestinal nematodes of ruminants].

Parassitologia, 2007
The development and survival of free-living stages of gastro-intestinal nematodes of small ruminants are influenced by several abiotic and biotic factors. Within the abiotic factors, most important are the environmental temperature and humidity. They regulate the development of larvae from eggs dispersed on the pasture by the animals faeces.
