Gastropods Species Associated with Seagrass Ecosystems in Pasir Putih, Manokwari

open access: yes, 2023
Gastropods are one of the classes of mollusks that associate well with seagrass ecosystems. The waters of Pasir Putih are included in a coastal area where many types of gastropods are found in seagrass ecosystems.

A bristle‐nosed Jurassic ray‐finned fish (Actinopterygii) bears true dermal odontodes on its snout

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Teeth show extreme diversity, including tooth‐like dermal odontodes or “skin teeth” in many extant fishes. We describe the anatomy of enlarged tubercles on the snout of Redfieldius, an extinct early Jurassic fish. We found that the tubercles in Redfieldius are dermal odontodes that evolved independently from those of living species. Abstract Comparison

Susceptibility of the early growth stages of volunteer oilseed rape to invertebrate predation

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2012
Chemical and agronomical control of volunteer plants is difficult, especially in reduced-input cropping systems where feeding by natural herbivores may become an important cause of their mortality.

Understanding marine biodiversity patterns and drivers: The fall of Icarus

open access: yesMarine Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Biodiversity patterns are fundamental in our understanding of the distribution of life, ecosystem function, and conservation. In this concept analysis, A survey of the existing knowledge on marine biodiversity patterns and drivers across latitudes, longitudes, and depths indicates that none of the postulated patterns represent a rule.

Confirmation of the impact origin of the Late Ordovician Tvären impact structure (southeast Sweden) and emplacement of impactites in a marine setting

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The Tvären structure in southeastern Sweden has been listed as a confirmed marine‐target impact structure for decades. However, to date, no measurements and/or indexed data of planar deformation features in quartz grains from the structure have been published or any other unequivocal evidence of impact.

Formation process of the gravel‐dominated deposit from the 2011 Tohoku‐oki tsunami in Ofunato, northeastern Japan, inferred by integrating sedimentology and tsunami modelling

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tsunami deposits serve as geological records of past events and are essential for understanding the occurrence and dynamics of tsunamis. However, conventional research has largely focused on sandy and boulder deposits, leaving gravel‐dominated tsunami deposits comparatively underexplored; furthermore, their characteristics and formation ...

The effects of bioturbation on porewater chemistry and early marine diagenesis: Evidence from a modern intertidal zone in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Early marine carbonate cements generally form in CaCO3‐supersaturated seawater at the seabed or shallow burial depths, resulting in syn‐sedimentary cemented firmgrounds and hardgrounds. The processes controlling early marine diagenesis are complex, particularly in coastal environments where geochemistry is influenced by different water sources
