The results of management of 7 newborns with gastroschisis in 1980-1987 are discussed. Four of them were treated by the earlier described method of "manual distention" of the abdominal cavity by stretching the abdominal wall with the finger, 3 patients recovered. The method was not applied to the other 3 patients and all of them died.
