Gastrotricha are an important component of the benthos and periphyton of freshwater habitats, where they can reach densities of up to 100 ind/10 cm-2. However, due to their small size and the difficulties met in their study, gastrotrichs, and especially aspects of their reproduction and ecology, are still poorly known.Gastrotricha are aschelminthes ...

Taxonomic and nomenclatural notes on freshwater Gastrotricha
Zootaxa, 2009Some taxonomic and nomenclatural remarks concerning freshwater species of Gastrotricha Chaetonotida are presented. In the family Chaetonotidae, the subgenus Chaetonotus (Hystricochaetonotus) is synonimized with the subgenus C. (Chaetonotus sensu stricto). The genus Lepidochaetus is moved to a subgeneric rank into the genus Chaetonotus, and the subgenus

Gastrotricha and metazoan phylogeny
Zoologica Scripta, 2002The phylogenetic position of the Gastrotricha within Bilateria and relationships among gastrotrich subgroups are reanalysed using morphological, developmental, nonsequence molecular, and ecological characters, together with the conserved regions of small‐subunit ribosomal RNA genes (SSU rDNA).

Hairybacks: Gastrotricha; Waterbears: Tardigrada
2013Hairybacks (Gastrotricha) (Figs. 45/1–2) are microscopic organisms up to 600 µm. These bilateral animals have elongated, wormlike body. Their body surface is covered with cilia arranged in longitudinal and transverse stripes. Despite their common name cilia are more frequent on the ventral surface than on the back.

Sinneseinrichtungen beiTurbanella cornuta Remane (Gastrotricha)
Gastrotricha from the Faroe Bank
Sarsia, 2004As part of the BIOFAR I programme 1987-1990, qualitative analyses of gastrotrichs have been carried out on samples of primarily carbonate sediment collected at the Faroe Bank. The taxonomic composition was examined and studies with respect to morphology performed.

An updated classification of the two orders of the phylum is provided up to family level, and numbers of genera and species described so far are specified. The phylum is composed of two orders: Macrodasyida, with, 9 families, 33 genera (+1 genus incertae sedis) and 338 species (+1 species incertae sedis), and Chaetonotida, with 8 families, 30 genera ...
