ABSTRACT Background Machine learning (ML) is increasingly used to analyse pain‐related data, emphasising how well variables classify individuals, that is, training an algorithm to assign people to predefined groups such as high versus low pain sensitivity, rather than focusing on p‐values.

Joint analysis of dispersed count‐time data using a bivariate latent factor model
Abstract In this study, we explore parameter estimation for a joint count‐time data model with a two‐factor latent trait structure, representing accuracy and speed. Each count‐time variable pair corresponds to a specific item on a measurement instrument, where each item consists of a fixed number of tasks.

ABSTRACT The browning of freshwater ecosystems is increasingly evident in temperate and northern regions, with widespread ramifications for lake physics, chemistry, and biology. Contrasting results on how freshwater browning may impact fish have been reported, but there has been no comprehensive examination of how browning may cause cascading effects ...

Contemporary hybridization among Arabis floodplain species creates opportunities for adaptation
Summary Hybridization between closely related species is increasingly recognized as a major source of biodiversity. Yet, whether it can create advantageous trait combinations while purging harmful alleles remains unknown. To address this question, we studied Arabis nemorensis and Arabis sagittata, two endangered species that currently hybridize in a ...

Summary Plastic responses of plants to their environment vary as a result of genetic differentiation within and among species. To accurately predict rangewide responses to climate change, it is necessary to characterize genotype‐specific reaction norms across the continuum of historic and future climate conditions comprising a species' range. The North

Coral broodstock were phenotyped using a rapid heat stress assay and ranked according to their performance (photochemical efficiency). Selectively breeding the broodstock based on their performance did not produce larvae with enhanced heat tolerance. Created in BioRender. Lamb, A. (2025) https://BioRender.com/zcgk0g6.

Long‐Term Memory Updating Parallels Altered Awake and Sleep Hippocampal Replays
This study introduces a behavioral paradigm for memory updating and reveals underlying hippocampal mechanisms. Replays of place cells predict future behavioral choices during behavior and show a bias toward high‐reward locations during non‐rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep, specifically within the memory updating process.

Pollinator, herbivore, and climatic selective pressures differ across a floral color transition zone
Abstract Premise Spatial and temporal variations in climate and ecological interactions may underlie the origin and maintenance of floral color polymorphisms across a species range. Betalains are nitrogen‐containing, phylogenetically restricted pigments that, like the widespread and well‐studied anthocyanins and carotenoids, may attract pollinators ...
