Adaptive Quadrature Schemes for Bayesian Inference via Active Learning
We propose novel adaptive quadrature schemes based on an active learning procedure. We consider an interpolative approach for building a surrogate posterior density, combining it with Monte Carlo sampling methods and other quadrature rules.

Gaussian quadrature rules and A-stability of Galerkin schemes for ODE
The A-stability properties of continuous and discontinuous Galerkin methods for solving ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are established using properties of Legendre polynomials and Gaussian quadrature rules. The influence on the A-stability of the

Orthogonal polynomials and generalized Gauss-Rys quadrature formulae
Orthogonal polynomials and the corresponding quadrature formulas of Gaussian type with respect to the even weight function $\omega^{\lambda}(t;x)=\exp(-x t^2)(1-t^2)^{\lambda-1/2}$ on $(-1,1)$, with parameters $\lambda>-1/2$ and $x>0$, are considered.

Representations of Multi-Attribute Grain Quality
Grain quality is typically measured via several attributes. As these attributes vary across shipments and time, grain quality can be described using multivariate probability or frequency distributions.

Gaussian quadrature for non-Gaussian distributions
Many problems of operations research or decision science involve continuous probability distributions, whose handling may be sometimes unmanageable; in order to tackle this issue, different forms of approximation methods can be used. When constructing a k-point discrete approximation of a continuous random variable, moment matching, i.e., matching as ...

Consensus Continuous-Discrete Gaussian Filtering Using Fully Symmetric Interpolatory Quadrature
Consensus-based estimators have been applied in the state estimation for cooperative multi-sensor systems, and most of current studies are for the continuous-time or discrete-time case.

Flexible and Efficient Inference with Particles for the Variational Gaussian Approximation
Variational inference is a powerful framework, used to approximate intractable posteriors through variational distributions. The de facto standard is to rely on Gaussian variational families, which come with numerous advantages: they are easy to sample ...

Uniqueness of the Gaussian Quadrature for a Ball
In a previous paper the authors [Numer. Math. 80, No. 1, 39-59 (1998; Zbl 0911.65015)] investigated quadrature formulae for the unit disk \(D=\{(x,y); x^2+y^2\leq 1\}\) which are based on integrals over \(n\) chords. Among all variety of quadrature formulae that use \(n\) chords, the following result was established: ``The Gaussian quadrature formula \[

On generalized Gaussian quadrature [PDF]
A general interpolation formula is derived such that when it is multiplied by a weight function and integrated, the result becomes a generalized Gaussian quadrature scheme which allows for an arbitrary number of preassigned nodes. The errors in the interpolation and quadrature formulas are studied.
