Unsaturated biobased polyesters from bicyclic α‐pinene‐based diols

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
We present the synthesis of four biosourced unsaturated polyesters made from chiral terpene‐based diols and esters of renewable diacids. The resulting materials harbor a bicyclic pinene ring in their backbones which leads to enhanced thermal properties while still conferring susceptibility to enzyme hydrolysis for chains having a cis alkene.

The evaluation of boundary‐layer turbulence in high‐resolution numerical weather prediction simulations using Doppler lidar

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
A new method compares both kilometer and sub‐kilometre weather model simulations with Doppler lidar observations to assess the representation of boundary‐layer turbulence. While bulk boundary‐layer properties are well represented, vertical velocity variance is strongly underestimated in both simulations.

The Transformational STEM Consciousness Scale: A QuantCrit Measure of a Liberatory STEM Outcome

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Guided by QuantCrit, we introduce and validate the Transformational STEM Consciousness (TSC) scale, which fuses students' motivation to pursue racial and social justice through STEM with a critique of STEM's historic complicity in inequity. Surveying 255 undergraduate and graduate students in 18 justice‐integrated STEM courses across 11 US ...

An Exploration of the Relationships Between Science Identity and Disabled Identities in Undergraduate Science Students

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Science identity is often conceptualized through constructs such as performance, competence, recognition, and interest, with prior research highlighting the roles of race, gender, and cultural background in shaping students' experiences. However, limited scholarship has examined how disability interacts with science identity in postsecondary ...
