Unveiling the Role of Curvature in Carbon for Improved Energy Release of Ammonium Perchlorate

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
High‐curvature carbon materials identified via machine learning and simulation can enhance the heat release and combustion performance of ammonium perchlorate. ABSTRACT The catalytic role of carbon curvature in the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) remains largely unexplored. To address this gap, this study employs machine learning and

Normalization of the covariant three-body bound state vertex function

open access: yes, 1997
The normalization condition for the relativistic three nucleon Bethe-Salpeter and Gross bound state vertex functions is derived, for the first time, directly from the three body wave equations.

Implications of Vector Boson Scattering Unitarity in Composite Higgs Models

open access: yes, 2017
The strong nature of Composite Higgs models manifests at high energies through the growing behavior of the scattering amplitudes of longitudinally polarized weak bosons that leads to the formation of composite resonances as well as non-resonant strong ...

Role of Liquid Composition in the Transient Liquid Assisted Growth of Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7‐δ Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The Y supersaturation in the [Ba‐Cu(I/II)‐O] transient liquid composition is the driving force toward YBCO nucleation and growth in TLAG. Tuning the initial (Ba:Cu) molar ratio in the ink composition determines the YBCO epitaxial nucleation through supersaturation control.

Characterizing thermal conduction in polycrystalline graphene

open access: yes, 2013
Thermal conduction was explored and discussed through a combined theoretical and simulation approach in this work. The thermal conductivity k of polycrystalline graphene was calculated by molecular dynamics simulations based on a hexagonal patch model in

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Spin-orbit induced spin-density wave in a quantum wire

open access: yes, 2007
We present analysis of the interacting quantum wire problem in the presence of magnetic field and spin-orbit interaction. We show that an interesting interplay of Zeeman and spin-orbit terms, facilitated by the electron-electron interaction, results in ...

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.
