A new record of species of Serolis (Crustacea, Isopoda, Flabellifera) from off southern Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 1974
The marine isopod species Serolis foresti Bastida & Torti, 1970, is reported from the southern Brazilian continental shelf. It is described the up to date unknown male. Few additional morphological informations are given on the female.

Ecotoxicological assessment of sediments from the Port of Santos and the disposal sites of dredged material

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2007
The dredging of sediments from the Santos Channel is necessary to allow the navigation of ships operating in the Port of Santos. The disposal sites for such sediments are situated on the coastal zone, in front of the Santos Bay.

A novel mechanism explaining the temperature dependence of marine unicellular nitrogen‐fixing cyanobacteria

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters
The major marine nitrogen‐fixing cyanobacterium, Crocosphaera watsonii, is restricted to warm tropical and subtropical oceans, while the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. C.

Eddy Dynamics From Satellite Altimetry [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2010
Most of the kinetic energy of ocean circulation is contained in ubiquitous mesoscale eddies. Their prominent signatures in sea surface height have rendered satellite altimetry highly effective in observing global ocean eddies. Our knowledge of ocean eddy

Standardized catch rate of cockfish, Callorhinchus callorynchus, in a bottom trawl fishery of Patagonia: Is it possible its use as a predictor of abundance trend?

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2015
The catch per unit of effort (CPUE) data of cockfish, Callorhinchus callorynchus, during 1986-2011 was evaluated for the bottom trawl fishery of the San Matías gulf (Patagonia, Argentina).

A mangrove nitrous oxide sink attenuates methane climate impacts

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters
We resolve mangrove nitrous oxide (N2O), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2) vertical exchange with the atmosphere and lateral exchange with the ocean. Our new observations in Brazil were combined with literature data to reassess the overall mangrove

Temporal variation in vegetative development of Caulerpa scalpelliformis (Chlorophyta) from Baleia beach, Ilha Grande bay (Rio de janeiro, brazil)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2011
Caulerpa scalpelliformis grows on rocky and sandy bottoms at different depths in Jacuacanga Cove, Ilha Grande Bay, where it can form dense patches. The invasive behavior of this and other species of Caulerpa is well documented in the literature.

Gas transfer velocity (k600) increases with discharge in steep streams but not in low‐slope streams

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters
Gas transfer velocity (k600) controls gas fluxes between aquatic ecosystems and the atmosphere. In streams, k600 is controlled by turbulence and, thus, local hydrology and geomorphology.

Spatial distribution of southern brown shrimp (Farfantepenaeus subtilis) on the Amazon continental shelf: a fishery, marine geology and GIS integrated approach

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2015
The spatial distribution of the southern brown shrimp Farfantepenaeus subtilis (Pérez-Farfante, 1967) was studied based on industrial fishing fleet activities and is associated with geological and oceanographic characteristics of the benthonic ...
