Food Availability Cannot Explain Dispersal and Settlement Decisions of a Grassland Bird

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We test a commonly assumed explanation for animal movements—namely that food availability shapes where animals disperse to. Based on the results of four strong predictions, 3 years of data, and hundreds of individual birds, we show that food cannot explain breeding dispersal in this system, and we propose alternative explanations consistent with our ...

Cryptic Vocal Communication in the Proboscis Bat (Rhynchonycteris naso)

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1561, Issue 1, July 2026.

Methods to estimate marine functional connectivity: A primer

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 4, June 2026.
Abstract Organism movement is a key process in the transfer of individuals, genes, functional traits, matter, and energy among habitat patches, at sea and across the land–sea interface. The resulting fluxes, collectively termed marine functional connectivity (MFC), underpin planetary health and an array of ecosystem services.
