Glacial and volcanic landforms in the upper catchment of Claro River, Central Chile (35.5°S): A Late Quaternary geomorphological case study

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 49, Issue 7, Page 2291-2307, 15 June 2024.
The upper catchment of the Claro river in the central Chilean Andes is described in terms of volcanic and glacial landforms seeking to establish a relative chronology associated to events during the late Pleistocene and Holocene, which is summarized in seven phases and presented as a conceptual model.

Live streaming at international academic conferences: Ethical considerations

open access: yesElementa: Science of the Anthropocene, 2019
Anthropogenic global warming (AGW) and the long tradition of political failures to address it have created an unprecedented global crisis. Individual carbon footprints are higher in industrialized countries; in that context, academics contribute ...

The Interplay between Strain, Sn Content, and Temperature on Spatially Dependent Bandgap in Ge1−x Sn x Microdisks

open access: yesphysica status solidi (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters, Volume 18, Issue 3, March 2024.
Mechanical and optical properties of germanium–tin microdisks are studied by finite element simulations and experimentally by spatially resolved optical (Raman and photoluminescence) spectroscopy and nano‐X‐ray diffraction. The result correlates mechanical deformation and electronic band structure over the volume of the disk for the prediction of ...

Temperature Stress and Redox Homeostasis in Agricultural Crops

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2015
Plants are exposed to a wide range of environmental conditions and one of the major forces that shape the structure and function of plants are temperature stresses, which include low and high temperature stresses and considered as major abiotic stresses ...

Ultrafast optical properties and applications of anisotropic 2D materials

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 13, Issue 2, Page 107-154, January 2024.
Abstract Two‐dimensional (2D) layered materials exhibit strong light‐matter interactions, remarkable excitonic effects, and ultrafast optical response, making them promising for high‐speed on‐chip nanophotonics. Recently, significant attention has been directed towards anisotropic 2D materials (A2DMs) with low in‐plane crystal symmetry. These materials

Implications of land use change on the national terrestrial carbon budget of Georgia

open access: yesCarbon Balance and Management, 2010
Background Globally, the loss of forests now contributes almost 20% of carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. There is an immediate need to reduce the current rates of forest loss, and the associated release of carbon dioxide, but for many areas of ...
