The correction of gear friction coefficients for backlash

Wear, 1978
Abstract The backlash of gears changes as the centre distance between the drive shafts varies causing changes in friction losses and drive efficiency. Changes in the friction coefficient due to changes in backlash may be estimated theoretically but it was found that they require to be multiplied by a factor of about 5 to correspond to experimentally ...

The Self-Compensation Approach for Backlash on Gear Train

2022
© 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Even if rotates unidirectional or bidirectional, a certain amount of space (free angular movement usually called “backlash”) between meshing teeth flanks are allowed for functional reasons.

Research on Vibration Responses of Gear System with Backlash

2020
Gear transmission system is widely used in mechanical systems, such as joints in manipulator system. However, the vibration and noise caused by the backlash in gear pair are significant to the manipulator system. The effects of backlash on vibration characteristics the gear-rotor system are investigated numerically.

Routes to chaos in a geared system with backlash

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
A lumped parameter torsional-bending model of a spur gear pair with backlash and time-invariant mesh stiffness is used to examine chaos. It can be shown that chaos typically exists in a lightly loaded and lightly damped gear pair when excited by the static transmission error.

Impact-Based Modeling of Backlash in Gear Driven Systems

ASME 2011 Dynamic Systems and Control Conference and Bath/ASME Symposium on Fluid Power and Motion Control, Volume 1, 2011
Backlash in gears creates nonlinear dynamics in mechanical systems and has been analyzed using a variety of methods and models. In this paper, we present a nonlinear, piecewise model for backlash dynamics that incorporates a coefficient of restitution to account for impact behavior during limit cycling.

Compensation of backlash for teleoperated geared motor drive systems

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
Robotics is a major field that is being researched for decades. With the use of robotic technology, applications of the microscopic level to the places where the human cannot reach are facilitated. When it comes to the larger robots, large actuators and drives have to be used to obtain the desired amount of power and the force or torque needed.

A New Backlash and Gear Play Model with Friction

2019 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics (ICM), 2019
Despite its significance, only few mathematical models for backlash and gear play have been published. This contribution discusses the most notable modeling approaches in current literature, and employs them to simulate the drive line of a test bed that was intentionally equipped with a pre-designed backlash spot.
