Testing Times: A Structure/Agency Perspective on Becoming a Science Teacher in a Competitive, Exam‐Based Teacher Selection System

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While extensive research exists on science teacher shortages, less attention has been directed toward countries facing the opposite challenge: an oversupply of science teachers. This study examines the experiences of prospective science teachers in South Korea, where passing a high‐stakes, annual competitive examination is a prerequisite for ...

Embedded Interactions and Selective Disclosure: Network Effects on Conversations aboard Skylab

open access: yesSymbolic Interaction, EarlyView.
How do absent others influence our interactions? We argue in this paper that interactions are embedded within networks formed by chains of specific relationships between known third parties. The anticipation of future interactions with external others conditions our interpretation of the current situation and affects our behavior in the interaction. We

环境温度变化对NGW行星轮系回差的影响

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2005
The relationship between the total backlash in NGW planetary gear trains and backlash in gear pairs is derived. The equation for the calculation of backlash caused by ambient temperature change is also deduced.

Modeling Skin Mark Temporal Variations to Estimate the Sex of Delphinids with Low Sexual Dimorphism: Implications for Management and Conservation

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This work aimed to apply the principles of skin mark analysis to a cetacean species to build a sex‐discrimination model exclusively based on photographic material. Relevant differences between sexes emerged in markings, with males presenting more social, aggression‐related, and fishing‐related marks overall, and a stronger tendency of mark accumulation
