New distributional data on Geastrum (Geastraceae, Basidiomycota) from Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesActa Botanica Brasilica, 2011
The data presented in this article are the results of field collections and the analysis of fungal specimens deposited in the URM Herbarium. The field trips were carried out in four Atlantic Forest remnants in the state of Pernambuco, between June 2008 and May 2009. The revision of specimens housed in the URM was restricted to the Brazilian exsiccatae.

Two new species of Geastrum (Geastraceae, Basidiomycota) found in Brazil

Nova Hedwigia, 2013
We have studied molecular and morphological data of Geastrum aculeatum sp. nov. and G. echinulatum sp. nov. These two species were found in Brazil’s semi-arid region and in central Amazon. It is characterized by the nature of the mycelial layer with aculeate tufts. Geastrum echinulatum differs from G.

On the Geastrum species (Geastraceae, Basidiomycota) described by Rick

Phytotaxa, 2012
Geastrum lloydianum, G. trichiferum and G. violaceum, described from Brazil by Johannes Rick at the beginning of the 20th century, are redescribed, lectotypified and compared with recent collections. Two recently described species, viz. G. hirsutum from Brazil and G. episcopale from Argentina, are regarded as synonyms to G. trichiferum and G. violaceum,

European earthstars in Geastraceae (Geastrales, Phallomycetidae) – a systematic approach using morphology and molecular sequence data

Systematics and Biodiversity, 2013
AbstractPhylogenetic relationships among European earthstars were inferred using sequence data from the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed region (ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2), partial nuclear large subunit (LSU), and partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha (Tef-α).

Geastrum rusticum (Geastraceae, Basidiomycota), a new earthstar fungus in the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest ? a molecular analysis

Nova Hedwigia, 2014
Geastrum rusticum sp. nov., found on decaying wood in the Neotropics, is molecular and morphologically characterized. Full descriptions are given, with photos, illustrations and taxonomical remarks on collected specimens compared with related taxa. Morphological and molecular datasets showed it to be distinct from other Geastrum species.
