Inferring alpha, beta, and gamma plant diversity across biomes with GEDI spaceborne lidar

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Ecology, 2023
Biodiversity-structure relationships (BSRs), which describe the correlation between biodiversity and three-dimensional forest structure, have been used to map spatial patterns in biodiversity based on forest structural attributes derived from lidar ...

Improving GEDI Footprint Geolocation Using a High-Resolution Digital Elevation Model

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2023
Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) is a lidar system on-board the International Space Station designed to study forest ecosystems. However, GEDI footprint low accuracy geolocation is a major impediment to the optimal benefit of the data.

Social network dynamics under experimental manipulations of predation risk and food abundance in wild rock hyraxes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study combines replicated experimental manipulation, social network analysis, network permutations and meta‐analysis to disentangle active from spatially‐induced changes in animal network structure in the wild. It reveals that short‐term environmental changes primarily alter space use, with limited effects on social structure.

Využití senzoru GEDI pro monitorování lesních porostů [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The overall objective of this thesis was to explore the use of GEDI and its integration with Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) for large scale forest monitoring. The study was carried out using a sample of GEDI footprints that fell into the timeline of three

ForestForTrees: An R package to infer forest structure from remote sensing data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Estimating forest size‐abundance distributions is essential for understanding demographic processes and structural dynamics. Remote sensing provides broad coverage but often misses smaller trees hidden beneath the canopy, complicating inference of the full size distribution.
