Coacervation with surfactants: From single-chain surfactants to gemini surfactants
Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2017Coacervation is a spontaneous process during which a colloidal dispersion separates into two immiscible liquid phases: a colloid-rich liquid phase in equilibrium with a diluted phase. Coacervation is usually divided into simple coacervation and complex coacervation according to the number of components.

Compaction of DNA by Gemini Surfactants: Effects of Surfactant Architecture
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2002The interaction between bacteriophage T4 DNA and cationic gemini surfactants was studied by the use of fluorescence microscopy. Upon addition of surfactant, DNA undergoes a transition from random coil to globule, with an intermediate coexistence region.

Mixed Micellization of Dimeric (Gemini) Surfactants and Conventional Surfactants
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2001The aqueous solutions of mixtures of various conventional surfactants and dimeric anionic and cationic surfactants have been investigated by electrical conductivity, spectrofluorometry, and time-resolved fluorescence quenching to determine the critical micelle concentrations and the micelle aggregation numbers in these mixtures.

Gemini Surfactants: New Synthetic Vectors for Gene Transfection
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2003AbstractThe superior surfactant properties of cationic gemini surfactants are applied to the complex problem of introducing genes into cells. Of almost 250 new compounds tested, of some 20 different structural types, a majority showed very good transfection activity in vitro.

Photoinduced morphism of gemini surfactant aggregates
Chemical Communications, 2005The photochemical behaviour of an azobenzene chromophore inserted in a gemini surfactant imparts photocontrol to the resulting amphiphile assemblies, including the collapse, upon irradiation, of the multi lamellar vesicles formed in aqueous solution.

Current Opinion in Colloid & Interface Science, 1996
Recent years have seen significant advances in the field of gemini (dimeric) surfactants. First, the effects of the length and nature of the spacer group on the behavior of gemini surfactants at the air/solution interface, on the shape of their micelles, and on the solution rheology and microstructure have been characterized. Second, dimeric surfactant

The Driving Force for the Association of Gemini Surfactants
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2017The self-assembly of surfactants into lyotropic liquid crystalline phases is interesting from a fundamental and practical perspective. The propensity for self-assembly is particularly interesting in Gemini surfactants which have a very low critical micelle concentration.

Separation and Purification Technology, 2016
Abstract So far, the protein with high solubility in water (such as bovine serum albumin) has been always chosen as the model protein in the studies on reverse micellar extraction; to recover the protein with considerable hydrophobicity from organic phase may not be easy.

Gemini surfactant-protein interactions
2008The interactions between bovine serum albumin (BSA) and gemini surfactants derived from cystine have been investigated and were compared with the conventional single-chain surfactant derived from cysteine. The influence of the stereochemistry of the gemini surfactant on its behavior toward BSA was also investigated, as well as the effects of pH and ...
