Conservation of gene repertoire but not gene order in pepper and tomato [PDF]
Homologies of tomato and pepper genes have been compared, and genetic linkage maps have been constructed based on a common set of cDNA clones and selected single-copy genomic clones. We report here that the gene repertoire of these two species is highly conserved, yet the linear order of the genes on the chromosomes has been greatly modified.

MicroRNA (miRNA) is a category of single-stranded non-coding small RNA (sRNA) that regulates gene expression by targeting mRNA. It plays a key role in the temperature-dependent sex determination of Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis), a reptile whose ...

Transcriptome Comparison Reveals Key Components of Nuptial Plumage Coloration in Crested Ibis
Nuptial plumage coloration is critical in the mating choice of the crested ibis. This species has a characteristic nuptial plumage that develops from the application of a black sticky substance, secreted by a patch of skin in the throat and neck region ...

Jasmonic Acid Boosts Physio-Biochemical Activities in Grewia asiatica L. under Drought Stress
It has been shown that jasmonic acid (JA) can alleviate drought stress. Nevertheless, there are still many questions regarding the JA-induced physiological and biochemical mechanisms that underlie the adaptation of plants to drought stress.

Short inversions and conserved gene clusters [PDF]
Abstract Motivation: Two independent sets of recent observations on newly sequenced microbial genomes pertain to the prevalence of short inversion as a gene order rearrangement process and to the lack of conservation of gene order within conserved gene clusters. We propose a model of inversion where the key parameter is the length of the

Orthotopic Transplantation of Native and Cryopreserved Ovarian Tissue in Day-Old Geese
As an alternative method for preserving female genetic material, the cryopreservation and orthotopic transplantation of day-old gonadal tissue have become well-developed techniques in a few poultry species. The aim of the present study was to apply these

Conservation of Silk Genes in Trichoptera and Lepidoptera [PDF]
Larvae of the sister orders Trichoptera and Lepidoptera are characterized by silk secretion from a pair of labial glands. In both orders the silk filament consists of heavy (H)- and light (L)-chain fibroins and in Lepidoptera it also includes a P25 glycoprotein.

Comparative Gene Prediction Based on Gene Structure Conservation [PDF]
Identifying protein coding genes is one of most important task in newly sequenced genomes. With increasing numbers of gene annotations verified by experiments, it is feasible to identify genes in newly sequenced genomes by comparing with genes annotated on phylogenetically close organisms. Here, we propose a program, GeneAlign, which predicts the genes
