Regulation of gene expression in plant mitochondria

Plant Molecular Biology, 1996
Many genes is plant mitochondria have been analyzed in the past 15 years and regulatory processes controlling gene expression can now be investigated. In vitro systems capable of initiating transcription faithfully at promoter sites have been developed for both monocot and dicot plants and will allow the identification of the interacting nucleic acid ...

Alternative polyadenylation and gene expression regulation in plants

WIREs RNA, 2010
AbstractFunctioning as an essential step of pre‐mRNA processing, polyadenylation has been realized in recent years to play an important regulatory role during eukaryotic gene expression. Such regulation occurs mostly through the use of alternative polyadenylation (APA) sites and generates different transcripts with altered coding capacity for proteins ...

Cold stress regulation of gene expression in plants

Trends in Plant Science, 2007
Cold stress adversely affects plant growth and development. Most temperate plants acquire freezing tolerance by a process called cold acclimation. Here, we focus on recent progress in transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational regulation of gene expression that is critical for cold acclimation.

Regulation of plant gene expression

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1986
Differential gene expression is required to establish and maintain specific developmental states in higher plants. For example, an anther has at least 11000 diverse mRNAs that are absent from the polysomes of other organ systems, and the root has at least 7000 organ-specific mRNAs.

The role of DNA methylation in the regulation of plant gene expression

EXS, 1993
The most common modification of DNA in plant cells is methylation of cytosine residues at carbon 5. In contrast to mammalian cells in which 3–8% of cytosine residues are methylated (Shapiro, 1975), in plants up to 30% of cytosine residues are modified (Adams and Burdon, 1985).
