Mouse Globin Gene Nomenclature

Journal of Heredity, 1988
A new system of nomenclature for haplotypes, genes, alleles, and mutant alleles in the mouse alpha- and beta-globin gene complexes was formulated at a meeting of workers in the field and is presented here.

Human and orthologous gene nomenclature

Gene, 2006
Standardised human gene nomenclature is an essential tool for all researchers, and applying this nomenclature to orthologous genes in other species greatly extends its utility. As more genomes are sequenced and annotated the wealth of information in the public domain concerning homologous genes and their products increases greatly.

Human and Mouse Gene Nomenclature

Current Protocols in Human Genetics, 2003
AbstractStandard genetic nomenclature is necessary to help researchers, clinicians, and the public to access data on their genes of interest, and to communicate in a globally understood language of approved gene symbols. In both human and mouse, one unique symbol (acronym/abbreviation) and one name are assigned for each gene.

Bacterial polysaccharide synthesis and gene nomenclature

Trends in Microbiology, 1996
Gene nomenclature for bacterial surface polysaccharides is complicated by the large number of structures and genes. We propose a scheme applicable to all species that distinguishes different classes of genes, provides a single name for all genes of a given function and greatly facilitates comparative studies.

The P450 Gene Superfamily: Recommended Nomenclature

DNA, 1987
A nomenclature for the P450 gene superfamily is proposed based on evolution. Recommendations include Roman numerals for distinct gene families, capital letters for subfamilies, and Arabic numerals for individual genes. An updating of this list, which presently includes 65 entries, will be required every 1-2 years.

Revised nomenclature of mouse H-2 genes

Immunogenetics, 1990
The H-2 nomenclature was last revised in 1974 (Klein et al. 1974; Shreffler et al. 1974). Since then it has gradually gone out of step with the advances in molecular biology of the H-2 complex as well as the rules for genetic nomenclature established by the International Committee for Mouse Genetic Nomenclature (Lyon 1989).
