Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

CRITICISM OF PROGRESS AND ITS ETHICAL EVALUATION FROM THE STANDPOINT OF THE NATIONAL “APOCALYPTIC CULTURE” OF THE TURN OF THE XIXTH AND XXTH CENTURIES

open access: yesВестник Мининского университета, 2017
Introduction: The approaches to understanding the crisis of culture in the context of Russian philosophical thought at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries are considered in this article.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Generic generalized diagonal matrices

open access: yesJournal of Algebra
Generalized diagonal matrices are matrices that have two ladders of entries that are zero in the upper right and bottom left corners. The minors of generic generalized diagonal matrices have square-free initial ideals. We give a description of the facets of their Stanley-Reisner complex.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Comparison between Bispectral Index-guided Propofol Induction and Clinically-guided Induction in Adult Hypertensive Patients Undergoing Elective Laparoscopic Surgery: A Randomised Controlled Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Traditional clinical endpoints for propofol induction often led to unintentional overdose, leading to haemodynamic instability, delayed recovery, and other complications.

An applied general equilibrium analysis of fiscal reforms to fight poverty in Mexico. [PDF]

open access: yes
The main goal of this paper is to analyze the consequences of two alternative ways of raising funds to finance poverty alleviation programs in Mexico: A Value Added Tax (VAT) reform and a personal income tax reform (IT).
