Anomaly General Circulation Models

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1988
Abstract Anomally models based on a spectral general circulation model (GCM) are formulated and applied to study of low-frequency atmospheric variability in the extratropics, and long-range forecasting research. A steady linear version of the anomaly model is treated by a matrix method.

Atmospheric General Circulation Modeling

2012
This entry provides a brief introduction to the computer models of the atmosphere used for climate studies. The concepts of atmospheric forcing and response are developed and used to highlight the importance of clouds and aerosols to the climate system and the many uncertainties associated with their representation.

Oceanic General Circulation Models

2012
The purpose of this text is to provide an introduction to aspects of oceanic general circulation models (OGCMs), an important component of Climate System or Earth System Model (ESM).

Parallel ocean general circulation modeling

Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1992
We have developed a global ocean model on the massively parallel CM-2 Connection Machine based on the Bryan-Cox-Semtner ocean general circulation model. This paper discusses the Connection Machine implementation of the model and its performance, as well as major changes that were made in the algorithm and numerical methods.

NAO–ocean circulation interactions in a coupled general circulation model

Climate Dynamics, 2008
The interplay between the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the large scale ocean circulation is inspected in a twentieth century simulation conducted with a state-of-the-art coupled general circulation model. Significant lead–lag covariance between oceanic and tropospheric variables suggests that the system supports a damped oscillatory mode ...
