Algebraic Observability of Rational Systems

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT For nonlinear systems, the concept of observability is defined by the indistinguishability of states. In the practical implementation, the distinguishing of states is carried out via the observability map consisting of Lie derivatives. This approach is comparatively difficult for general nonlinear systems.

Covariance Estimation for Wide Data

open access: yesWIREs Computational Statistics, Volume 18, Issue 2, June 2026.
Covariance matrix estimation is fundamental to multivariate analysis, with applications spanning finance, genomics, climate science, and signal processing. This review synthesizes recent advances in high‐dimensional covariance estimation‐thresholding, linear and nonlinear shrinkage, graphical models, and random matrix theory‐under a unifying framework ...

Thermal Escape of Atomic Hydrogen on Mars: A Comprehensive View With a General Circulation Model

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Mars loses water mainly through the photodissociation of water vapor, followed by the thermal escape of light hydrogen atoms. Observations have revealed large seasonal variations in hydrogen concentration in the upper thermosphere, peaking during southern summers and intensifying during dust storms.

Optimizing Large‐Scale Mathematical Assessments: Leveraging Hierarchical Attribute Structures and Diagnostic Classification Models for Enhanced Student Diagnostics

open access: yesEducational Measurement: Issues and Practice, Volume 45, Issue 2, Summer 2026.
Abstract Diagnostic classification models (DCMs) assess students’ mastery of cognitive attributes to provide personalized ability profiles. Retrofitting DCMs to large‐scale mathematics assessments usually relies on inferred Q‐matrices, which can reduce accuracy and diagnostic value.

Enhancing Artificial Neural Network Performance for Wildfire Susceptibility Mapping Using Bernstein‐Levy and Multi‐Population Differential Evolution Algorithms

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 30, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Wildfire susceptibility mapping (WSM) is critical for forest management, land‐use planning, and disaster risk mitigation. Although hybrid artificial neural network (ANN) models optimized by metaheuristic algorithms are increasingly used in susceptibility mapping, they are often evaluated without strong machine learning benchmarks, spatially ...

The singularity category and duality for complete intersection groups

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract If G$G$ is a finite group, the structure of the modular representation theory depends on the cochains C∗(BG;k)$C^*(BG; k)$, viewed as a commutative ring spectrum. We consider here its singularity category (in the sense of the author and Stevenson [Adv. Math.
