Laser Generation of Surface Waves on Cylinder with a Slow Coating
Chinese Physics Letters, 2008An analytical model of acoustic field excited by a pulsed-laser line source on a coated cylinder is presented. Surface wave dispersive behaviours for a cylinder with a slow coating are analysed and compared with that of a bare cylinder. Based on this analysis, the laser-generated transient response of the perturbed Rayleigh wave and the higher modes of

By using the shadow and PIV methods, the flow patterns induced by the surface discharge on the circular cylinder in the stationary air are presented. It is shown that the flow around cylinder is a superposition of the near-wall vortex structure and radially-propagating jets.

Proceedings of IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2002
It is known that rotationally symmetric surfaces can be recognized from their outlines alone, using cross-ratios of bitangent intersections. A successful implementation of this technique is demonstrated using a novel bitangent finder which works on images of real scenes.

General Solution of the Hollow Cylinder and Concentric DC Surface Current
IEEE Magnetics Letters, 2014We provide a general solution to the problem of an infinitely long, hollow cylinder of uniform, linear permeability in the presence of any continuous dc current distribution residing on a concentric cylindrical surface. The solution is expressed in terms of the spatial Fourier components of the applied surface current.

A surface-scanning algorithm for displaying generalized cylinders
The Visual Computer, 1992Generalized cylinders are objects defined by sweeping an arbitrary 2D closed contour along an arbitrary 3D trajectory while simultaneously scaling the contour in two perpendicular directions. A display algorithm for generalized cylinders is presented that is based on generating successive points on contours positioned at successive points on the ...

Numerical Study for Surface-breaking Crack Detection on a Cylinder Using Laser-generated Ultrasound
2018 15th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots (UR), 2018Laser ultrasonic has been widely investigated for its high spatial resolution, non-contact generation and distant testing. In this study, the laser induced waves on a cylinder is simulated based on an explicit finite element model, and the location of the surface-breaking crack is determined using signal enhancement of surface waves on the cylinder.

A novel tool for segmenting 3D medical images based on generalized cylinders and active surfaces
Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, 2013Three-dimensional (3D) medical imaging has been incorporated in routine clinical practice, since the required infrastructure has become increasingly affordable. New algorithms and applications are needed to serve the additional image processing and analysis functions in 3D space.

Drag reduction and thrust generation by tangential surface motion in flow past a cylinder
Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics, 2018Sensitivity of drag to tangential surface motion is calculated in flow past a circular cylinder in both two- and three-dimensional conditions at Reynolds number $$\textit{Re} \le 1000$$ . The magnitude of the

Recently, a heat treatment technique has been proposed to induce compressive residual stresses at the vicinity of the outer wall of a thermally autofrettaged cylinder. In the proposed technique, the outer wall of a thermally autofrettaged vessel is heated above the lower critical temperature while temperature of the inner wall is kept below it.
