Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Estimating Climate Risk Exposure in the U.S. Insurance Sector Using Factor Model and EVT

open access: yesMathematics
This study examines the exposure of the U.S. insurance sector to climate-related risks using a two-step approach combining factor modeling and Extreme Value Theory. The analysis first constructs a climate risk factor from transition-sensitive sectors and

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

APLIKASI METODE MOMEN MOMEN PROBABILITAS TERBOBOTI UNTUK ESTIMASI PARAMETER DISTRIBUSI PARETO TERAMPAT PADA DATA CURAH HUJAN (Studi Kasus Data Curah Hujan Kota Semarang Tahun 2004-2013) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The method used to analyze the extreme rainfall is Extreme Value Theory (EVT). One of the approaches in the EVT is Peak Over Threshold (POT) which follows the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD).

Bayesian inference for generalized extreme value distributions via Hamiltonian Monte Carlo [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2017
In this paper we propose to evaluate and compare Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods to estimate the parameters in a generalized extreme value model. We employed the Bayesian approach using traditional Metropolis-Hastings methods, Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) and Riemann manifold HMC (RMHMC) methods to obtain the approximations to the posterior ...

A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...

Accuracy Evaluation of Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) Estimation under Conventional Assumption in Yeşilırmak, Kızılırmak, and Konya Closed Basins, Turkey

open access: yesAdvances in Meteorology, 2023
The doubt in the calculation algorithm of the standardized precipitation index (SPI), which is widely preferred in the evaluation and monitoring of drought, still remains up-to-date because its calculation process is performed in the form of ...

The generalized Pareto process; with a view towards application and simulation

open access: yes, 2014
In extreme value statistics, the peaks-over-threshold method is widely used. The method is based on the generalized Pareto distribution characterizing probabilities of exceedances over high thresholds in $\mathbb {R}^d$.

Photoconductivity‐Driven Quantum Efficiency Gain in Inorganic Ruddlesden‐Popper Layered Cs2PbBr2I2 Perovskite Photodetector for Visible Light Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rational halogen mixing strategy was employed to shift the bandgap of Cs2PbBr2I2 from ultraviolet to visible region, enabling first realization of a visible‐light photodetector with this 2D layered Ruddlesden‐Popper perovskite material. Under illumination, light‐induced internal field forms and drives trap‐mediated persistent photoconductivity ...

Scaling in the Timing of Extreme Events

open access: yes, 2014
Extreme events can come either from point processes, when the size or energy of the events is above a certain threshold, or from time series, when the intensity of a signal surpasses a threshold value.
