Effect of Smoothing in Generalized Linear Mixed Models on the Estimation of Covariance Parameters for Longitudinal Data [PDF]
AbstractBesides being mainly used for analyzing clustered or longitudinal data, generalized linear mixed models can also be used for smoothing via restricting changes in the fit at the knots in regression splines. The resulting models are usually called semiparametric mixed models (SPMMs).

A Review on the Multidimensional Analysis of Earnings Quality
There is a generalized consensus among accounting researchers about the multidimensional nature of earnings quality: Earnings quality depends on a series of characteristics that enhance the usefulness of the earnings figure for decision making.

Randomized Kolmogorov and Linear Widths on Generalized Besov Classes with Mixed Smoothness
AbstractIn this paper, we study the Kolmogorov and the linear widths on the generalized Besov sov classes , BpθΩ with mixed smoothness in the Monte Carlo setting. Applying the discretization technique and some properties of pseudo-s-scale, we determine the exact asymptotic orders of the Kolmogorov and the linear widths for some values of the parameters

BayesX: Analysing Bayesian structured additive regression models [PDF]
There has been much recent interest in Bayesian inference for generalized additive and related models. The increasing popularity of Bayesian methods for these and other model classes is mainly caused by the introduction of Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC)

Image Restoration Using Joint Statistical Modeling in Space-Transform Domain
This paper presents a novel strategy for high-fidelity image restoration by characterizing both local smoothness and nonlocal self-similarity of natural images in a unified statistical manner. The main contributions are three-folds.

Penalized likelihood estimation and iterative kalman smoothing for non-gaussian dynamic regression models [PDF]
Dynamic regression or state space models provide a flexible framework for analyzing non-Gaussian time series and longitudinal data, covering for example models for discrete longitudinal observations.

Lateral tower vibrations of offshore wind turbines are normally lightly damped, and large amplitude vibrations induced by wind and wave loads in this direction may significantly shorten the fatigue life of the tower.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

The Refined Sobolev Scale, Interpolation, and Elliptic Problems
The paper gives a detailed survey of recent results on elliptic problems in Hilbert spaces of generalized smoothness. The latter are the isotropic H\"ormander spaces $H^{s,\varphi}:=B_{2,\mu}$, with $\mu(\xi)=^{s}\varphi()$ for $\xi\in\mathbb{R}^{n ...
