Probabilistic retrieval models - relationships, context-specific application, selection and implementation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
PhDRetrieval models are the core components of information retrieval systems, which guide the document and query representations, as well as the document ranking schemes.

Stage‐Dependent β‐Synuclein Links MRI and Cognitive Decline in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Synaptic degeneration drives cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD), but synaptic biomarkers are scarce. Brain‐enriched β‐synuclein emerged as a synaptic damage marker. We investigated its diagnostic, prognostic, and structural correlates across the AD continuum.

A formalism-local framework for general probabilistic theories, including quantum theory [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Structures in Computer Science, 2013
In this paper we consider general probabilistic theories pertaining to circuits that satisfy two very natural assumptions. We provide a formalism that is local in the following very specific sense: calculations pertaining to any region of space–time employ only mathematical objects associated with that region. We call this formalism locality.

Arterial Spin‐Labeling MRI at the Cortical‐CSF Interface: A Novel Biomarker in Alzheimer Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objective Arterial spin‐labeling (ASL) MRI can measure perfusion signal adjacent to CSF spaces and may provide information regarding CSF‐adjacent water transport physiology. We developed an automated pipeline to extract cortical‐CSF interface (IF) perfusion for comparison between Alzheimer disease (AD) and cognitively normal ...

Indistinguishability in general probabilistic theories

open access: yes
The existence of indistinguishable quantum particles provides an explanation for various physical phenomena we observe in nature. We lay out a path for the study of indistinguishable particles in general probabilistic theories (GPTs) via two frameworks: the traditional GPT framework and the diagrammatic framework of process theories.

CSF Cytokine Network Organization Predicts Progression Independent of Relapse and MRI Activity in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Progression independent of relapse activity is a major determinant of long‐term disability in multiple sclerosis, but its immunopathologic basis remains incompletely understood. We investigated whether relapse‐independent progression in radiologically stable relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis is associated with distinct ...

Vulnerability of f(Q) gravity theory and a possible resolution

open access: yesAcademia Quantum
Both the generalized teleparallel theories of gravity suffer from some serious problems. The strong coupling issue appearing as a consequence of extra degrees of freedom in the “generalized metric teleparallel gravity” theory prompted to ...

Safety and Efficacy of GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists in Adults With Epilepsy, Obesity, and Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Managing obesity in patients with epilepsy is complicated by the weight‐gaining properties of essential antiseizure medications (ASMs) such as valproate and pregabalin. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of initiating glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) in this population.

Cumulative Social Disadvantage and Disease Activity in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Social determinants of health (SDOH) contribute to juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) disparities, but most studies have assessed SDOH independently rather than cumulatively across individual, family, and neighborhood levels. Using a socioecological framework, we investigated the relationship among cumulative social disadvantage ...

Consistency and asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimator in a zero-inflated generalized Poisson regression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Poisson regression models for count variables have been utilized in many applications. However, in many problems overdispersion and zero-inflation occur.
