Deriving Mixture Distributions Through Moment-Generating Functions

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Theory and Applications (JSTA), 2020
This article aims to make use of moment-generating functions (mgfs) to derive the density of mixture distributions from hierarchical models. When the mgf of a mixture distribution doesn't exist, one can extend the approach to characteristic ...

Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Some generating functions of Laguerre polynomials

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1987
In this note a class of interesting generating relation, which is stated in the form of theorem, involving Laguerre polynomials is derived. Some applications of the theorem are also given here.

Holomorphic generalized functions

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1984
A new theory of generalized functions defined on open subsets of \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) has been introduced by Colombeau; see his books ''New generalized functions and multiplication of distributions'' (1984; Zbl 0532.46019) and ''Elementary introduction to new generalized functions'' (1985).

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Spanning tree generating functions and Mahler measures

open access: yes, 2012
We define the notion of a spanning tree generating function (STGF) $\sum a_n z^n$, which gives the spanning tree constant when evaluated at $z=1,$ and gives the lattice Green function (LGF) when differentiated.

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Certain Class of Generating Functions for the Incomplete Hypergeometric Functions

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
Generating functions play an important role in the investigation of various useful properties of the sequences which they generate. In this paper, we aim to establish certain generating functions for the incomplete hypergeometric functions introduced by ...

Consecutive patterns in permutations: clusters and generating functions [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2012
We use the cluster method in order to enumerate permutations avoiding consecutive patterns. We reprove and generalize in a unified way several known results and obtain new ones, including some patterns of length 4 and 5, as well as some infinite families
