Generating Acceptable Shift-working Schedules
Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1988When a factory operates a shift system of working, the work patterns are usually laid down at the start and adhered to for long periods. In this case study, small out-stations with frequent changes in manning require the frequent generation of new schedules.

Optimal generation scheduling of small diesel generators in a microgrid
2014 IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON), 2014To optimize generation scheduling of four diesel generators in a planned microgrid, we applied General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). The aim is to minimize power generation costs which depend on high and volatile diesel prices, and consequently to reduce emissions.

A comparison of general approaches to multiprocessor scheduling
Proceedings 11th International Parallel Processing Symposium, 2002The paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the two phase method of scheduling, in which task clustering is performed prior to the actual scheduling process. Task clustering determines the optimal or near optimal number of processors on which to schedule the task graph.

Scheduling in a generic perspective
International Journal of Expert Systems, 1996Creating computer systems to perform a task that requires expert knowledge is complex. To a certain extent, the developer has to gain the task expertise himself in order to design adequate decision support. Several methods are available to capture the knowledge of an expert and to implement this in a knowledge based system.
