Smoothness of voltage stability surface with generator reactive power limit encountered
When constraints of generators are encountered, a stable power system can become unstable immediately and voltage collapse may occur. One of these constraints considered in the paper is the reactive power limit of generators. Based on an effective control strategy, the smoothness of the transfer limit surface of voltage stability is studied by ...

Voltage stability is dominant in heavily loaded systems with large disturbances. This is typically the case in the deregulated environment wherein the transmission systems are operating under more stressed condition. This is due to increased transaction level associated with open access. Abnormal voltage instability has occurred in several countries in

Incorporating generator reactive power limits into constrained-genetic-algorithm load flow
This paper develops a method to deal with the generator reactive power limits in a genetic algorithm-based environment. In this method, the limits are treated as inequality constraints. The developed method for treating the reactive power limits and the technique usually adopted in Newton-Raphson load flow are compared.

This paper investigates the smoothness of the transfer limit surface, or the loadability surface, of power systems. The reactive power output constraints of generators are taken into consideration. A new methodology employed for the investigation is based on characterizing each maximum loading point by the state of the generators (PV or PQ).

Generator reactive power limits and voltage stability
Generator reactive power limit is a key factor in voltage instability. When the field or armature current limit becomes active, the generator reactive power limit becomes voltage dependent. These operational limits and the shifting between field limit and armature limit, are fully investigated.
