Chemoselective Synthesis of α‐Chloro and α,α‐Dichloro Acetamidines via the Carbenoids Addition to Inherently Low Electrophilic Carbodiimides

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Carbodiimides act as competent electrophilic synthons for the chemoselective addition of lithium mono‐ and di‐halocarbenoids. The transformation is provided through a single synthetic operation—hitherto elusive—halogenated acetamidines. Interestingly, the constitutively tamed electrophilicity of the starting materials is effectively counterbalanced by ...

Who is generous and to whom? Generosity among Christians, Muslims, and atheists in the USA, Sweden, Egypt, and Lebanon

open access: yesJudgment and Decision Making
Are religious people more generous than non-religious people? If so, are they more generous in general or mainly to members of their religious ingroup (i.e., parochially generous)?

Deazaflavin‐Catalyzed Arylation of White Phosphorus with Aryl Bromides and Chlorides

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
The 5‐aryldeazaflavin photocatalyst o‐Me‐dFl catalyzes the arylation of white phosphorus with aryl chlorides and bromides under near UV‐LED irradiation, affording triarylphosphines and tetraarylphosphonium salts. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies and density functional theory calculations offer insights into the reaction pathway.

Responsibility-allevation and effort provision in a gift-exchange experiment [PDF]

open access: yes
Previous indirect evidence suggests that impulses towards pro-social behavior are diminished when an external authority is responsible for an outcome. The responsibility-alleviation effect states that a shift of responsibility to an external authority ...

Quenchable Amorphous Diamond: A Novel High‐Pressure Route to Tetrahedral Amorphous Carbon

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
This study predicts the high‐pressure transformation of amorphous graphite into an sp3‐rich amorphous diamond phase using ab initio molecular dynamics. A first‐order transition is expected to occur ≈33 GPa in experiments, offering a novel synthesis route for sp3‐bonded amorphous carbon.

Correlation Between Crime, Oxytocin, and Generosity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis examines the relationship between the type of crime of which an inmate is convicted, the change in oxytocin level, and the level of generosity of that inmate.

Design of Thermodynamically Stable Lead‐Free Cs2InCuCl6 Double Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Lead‐free Cs₂InCuCl₆ double perovskite (CICC) is explored as a solar absorber via SCAPS simulations. Device optimization of absorber thickness, defect densities, and interface kinetics with HTL/ETL materials reveals promising power conversion efficiency.
