Genetic and environmental determinants of menstrual characteristics

open access: yesIndian Journal of Human Genetics, 2012
The impact of women's menstrual cycle on her quality of life, health, work, and community is substantial. Menstrual disturbance is linked with general ill conditions such as migraine, asthma, and endocrinopathies. The clinical significance of medical interventions to prevent these conditions becomes clear if the role of genetic or environment is ...

SELECTIVE BREEDING, HERITABLE CHARACTERISTICS AND GENETIC-BASED TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE IN THE CANADIAN BEEF CATTLE INDUSTRY [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper presents an examination of genetic-based technological change in the Canadian beef cattle industry. A model of technological change is explicitly developed in characteristics space. Production functions with genetic characteristics as arguments

Foodplant Suitabilities and a New Oviposition Record for \u3ci\u3ePapilio Glaucus Canadensis\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) in Northern Wisconsin and Michigan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
(excerpt) The eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly, Papilio glaucus L., is polyphagous, and has been reported to feed upon plant species of at least 13 families (Scudder 1889, Teitz 1972). The Canadian subspecies, P.

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.

Genetic Characteristics of Streptomycin-resistant Streptococci [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1971
SUMMARY: The genetic properties of transformable (SR 5a) and non-transformable (SR30) streptomycin-resistant streptococci were examined. In mutant SR30, the very high resistance (VHR) phenotype appeared to be due to at least two factors; a high resistance (HR) mutation and an enhancing modifier gene.

Estimation of a simple genetic algorithm applied to a laboratory experiment [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of our contribution relies on studying the possibility of implementing a genetic algorithm in order to reproduce some characteristics of a simple laboratory experiment with human subjects.

Spot‐14 and its paralog Spot‐14R regulate expression of metabolic and thermogenic pathway genes in murine brown and beige adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

On the Implementation and Use of a Genetic Algorithm with Genetic Acquisitions [PDF]

open access: yes
A genetic algorithm is convergent when genetic mutations occur on the objective function gradient direction. These genetic mutations are called genetic acquisitions (Mateescu, 2005).

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...
