Diversity Studies in Ecotypes of Banana (Musa Spp.) Using Molecular Markers and D2 Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Horticultural Sciences, 2012
The present study was aimed at analyzing the genetic diversity of promising banana ecotypes grown in Kerala. Twenty eight ecotypes of banana were collected from different parts of Kerala. DNA isolated from these was used for RAPD analysis.

Genetic Divergence in Sugarcane Genotypes

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 2013
To assess genetic divergence of sugarcane germplasm, an experiment comprising 25 sugarcane genotypes was conducted at Sugar Crops Research Institute (SCRI), Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, in quadruple lattice design during 2008-09. Among the 14 parameters evaluated, majority exhibited significant differences while some showed nonsignificant mean

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Genetic Divergence Analysis in Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2015
Genetic diversity among 31 genotypes of groundnut were estimated using Mahalanobis D2 statistic for five agro-morphological characters. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among the genotypes for all characters.

Genetic Divergence Study in Gladiolus

open access: yesJournal of Recent Advances in Agriculture, 2015
Studies were carried out to find out the most diverse clusters (group of genotypes having similar characteristic features) taking 19 characters for observation among 30 genotypes of gladiolus grown over two successive years in Department of Floriculture and Landscaping. The pooled data was analyzed for divergence study using Mahalanobis’s D 2 statistic

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.
