Should Parents Design Their Children’s Genome: Some General Arguments and a Confucian Solution

open access: yesPhilosophies, 2019
With the emergence of clustered, regularly interspaced, short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) as one of the most promising new gene-editing techniques, scientists are now endeavoring to apply it to various domains.

Markovian Characterisation of H.264/SVC scalable video [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper, a multivariate Markovian traffic: model is proposed to characterise H.264/SVC scalable video traces. Parametrisation by a genetic algorithm results in models with a limited state space which accurately capture.

ACSS2 involved in acetyl‐CoA synthesis regulates skeletal muscle function

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme acyl‐coenzyme A synthetase short‐chain family member‐2 (ACSS2) catalyzes the conversion of acetate to acetyl‐CoA, but its function in skeletal muscle is unclear. We studied ACSS2 deficiency in mouse and fly models. Skeletal muscle from the mouse model showed atrophic fibers, excess lipid, and depleted NADH.

Structural dynamics of the plant hormone receptor ETR1 in a native‐like membrane environment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The present study unveils the structural and signaling dynamics of ETR1, a key plant ethylene receptor. Using an optimized nanodisc system and solution NMR, we captured full‐length ETR1 in a native‐like membrane environment. Our findings reveal dynamic domain uncoupling and Cu(I)‐induced rigidification, providing the first evidence of metal‐triggered ...

A Bayesian method for identification of stock mixtures from molecular marker data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Molecular markers have been demonstrated to be useful for the estimation of stock mixture proportions where the origin of individuals is determined from baseline samples.

A working model for cytoplasmic assembly of H/ACA snoRNPs

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dyskerin is the component of nuclear H/ACA ribonucleoproteins (RNPs) endowed with pseudouridine synthase catalytic activity. Two isoforms of human dyskerin have been characterized: the abundant Iso1, mainly nuclear, and the shorter Iso3, mainly cytoplasmic but occasionally imported into nuclei.
