Genetic markers in neuroblastoma

open access: yesVarna Medical Forum, 2019
Neuroblastoma is one of the most frequent solid pediatric tumors. Its clinical course and response to treatment are both markedly heterogenic. Such a varied spectrum demands genomic hallmarks to be established for the sake of identifying the molecular mechanisms, which initiate the tumor and lead to malignant progression.

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

Genetic markers in the Spitsbergen reindeer

open access: yesHereditas, 2009
Blood samples from 81 Spitsbergen reindeer together with reference samples from 11 continental Norwegian reindeer have been examined by different electrophoretic techniques with regard to the following genetic marker systems: Red cells: Hb, PGM, 6-PGD, GPT, ESD, GLO, and AcP. Serum: A1 and Tf. In all markers except Tf (transferrin)

Modern approaches for breeding high quality apples with durable resistance to scab, powdery mildew and fire blight [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
New methods to allow for more precise selection of tree and fruit characters in breeding programmes were developed in recent years. Marker-assisted selection (MAS) is common practice in the ACW apple breeding programme at Wädenswil.

From lactation to malignancy: A comparison between healthy and cancerous breast gland at single‐cell resolution reveals new issues for tumorigenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals an opposite role of SLPI in basal tumors based on metastatic spread, along with shared activation of specific regulons in cancer cells and mature luminal lactocytes, as well as downregulation of MALAT1 and NEAT1 in the latter.

GeMprospector—online design of cross-species genetic marker candidates in legumes and grasses

open access: yesNucleic Acids Res., 2006
The web program GeMprospector (URL: ) allows users to automatically design large sets of cross-species genetic marker candidates targeting either legumes or grasses. The user uploads a collection of ESTs from one or more legume or grass species, and they

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.
