Genetic Markers and Alcoholism

1983
Genetic markers are genetically determined characteristics that have been found to occur in association with some common disorders. In alcoholism, four types of genetic markers have been studied to determine their frequency compared with the general population frequency.

Genetic markers of ALS

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, 2000
As a result of the advances made in the field of molecular and population genetics, it is anticipated that several genes underlying ALS or predisposing to ALS might be identified in the near future. This will enable physicians to establish a diagnosis of ALS based on molecular findings in addition to clinical and electrophysiological findings.

Genetic Markers of Osteoarthritis

Current Rheumatology Reviews, 2010
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic arthropathy, in which cartilage loss, osteophyte formation, and subchondral bone sclerosis lead to pain, disability, and a reduction in quality of life. OA is a multifactorial disease and OA cases are affected by both genetics and environment to varying degrees.

Biochemical genetic markers in sugarcane

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1989
Isozyme variation was used to identify biochemical markers of potential utility in sugarcane genetics and breeding. Electrophoretic polymorphism was surveyed for nine enzymes among 39 wild and noble sugarcane clones, belonging to the species most closely related to modern varieties.

Genetic Instability Markers in Cancer

2019
High frequency of mutations seems to determine a higher occurrence of neoepitope formation and, thus, tumor immunogenicity. A somatic hypermutated status could thus act as a predictive biomarker of responsiveness to immunotherapy with recent immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Genetic Markers in Epilepsy

Human Heredity, 1981
In a study of genetic markers in patients with epilepsy, 30 genetic systems have been tested and the results compared with all previously published studies on this subjects. Only one marker, Ss + ss/SS in the MNSs blood group system showed a statistically highly significant difference (p below 0.001) in the epileptic patients compared with a control ...

Genetic Markers and Biotechnology

2015
Clusterbean is an obligatory self-pollinating and inbreeding species and therefore, little variation in DNA polymorphism is expected among the cultivars. It has triploid endosperm and has more vegetative growth as compared to diploid counterparts.

Psoriasis vulgaris and genetic markers

Human Genetics, 1977
In a sample of n = 160 nonrelated male and female patients suffering from psoriasis Vulgaris, blood serum protein, and enzyme group typings have been carried out and compared with healthy controls from the same area (Rheinland-Pfalz). Marked statistically significant differences between patients and controls were found in none of the genetic blood ...

Genetic and immunological markers in pouchitis

European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 1996
Previous studies of the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RN) have found an increased frequency of the associated variable number tandem repeat (VNTR) allele 2 for ulcerative colitis (UC) and further evidence has been reported that this allele is associated with increased severity of several other inflammatory conditions.
