Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Genetic analysis of postpartum measures of luteal activity in dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for measures of luteal activity during the first 60 d postpartum. Analyses were made with different sampling intervals to investigate the possibility of combining progesterone measurement ...

Robust Mantel-Haenszel test under genetic model uncertainty allowing for covariates in case-control association studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The trend test under the additive model is commonly used when a case-control genetic association study is carried out. However, for many complex diseases, the underlying genetic models are unknown and a mis-specification of the genetic model may result ...

Genetic parameters and trends for Johne's disease in US Holsteins: An updated study

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: Johne's disease (JD) is an infectious enteric disease in ruminants, causing substantial economic loss annually worldwide. This work aimed to estimate JD's genetic parameters and the phenotypic and genetic trends by incorporating recent data.

Multiple-trait multiple-country genetic evaluation of Holstein bulls for female fertility and milk production traits

open access: yesAnimal, 2014
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of including milk yield data in the international genetic evaluation of female fertility traits to reduce or eliminate a possible bias because of across-country selection for milk yield.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Spatiotemporal patterns of genetic variation for growth and fertility in Scots pine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Genetic testing plays an important role in tree breeding. Understanding basic genetic parameters for growth and fertility is a prerequisite for developing a successful breeding strategy to balance between short- and long-term gains.
