Functional imaging of ganglion and receptor cells in living human retina by osmotic contrast [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Imaging neuronal activity non-invasively in vivo is of tremendous interest, but current imaging techniques lack either functional contrast or necessary microscopic resolution. The retina is the only part of the central nervous system (CNS) that allows us direct optical access.

Does Corticothalamic Feedback Control Cortical Velocity Tuning? [PDF]

open access: yesNeural Computation 13 (2001), pp. 327-355, 2002
The thalamus is the major gate to the cortex and its contribution to cortical receptive field properties is well established. Cortical feedback to the thalamus is, in turn, the anatomically dominant input to relay cells, yet its influence on thalamic processing has been difficult to interpret.

Effects of glaucoma and snoring on cerebral oxygenation in the visual cortex: a study using functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of snoring and glaucoma on the visual Haemodynamic Response (HDR) using functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS).

Distribution of melanopsin positive neurons in pigmented and albino mice: evidence for melanopsin interneurons in the mouse retina. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Here we have studied the population of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) in adult pigmented and albino mice. Our data show that although pigmented (C57Bl/6) and albino (Swiss) mice have a similar total number of ipRGCs, their ...

Injuries to the Immature Optic Radiation Show Correlated Thinning of the Macular Ganglion Cell Layer

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
Injuries to the immature optic radiation (OR) are associated with thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer and corresponding visual field (VF) defects.

The role of facial canal diameter in the pathogenesis and grade of Bell's palsy: a study by high resolution computed tomography

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology
Introduction: The exact etiology of Bell's palsy still remains obscure. The only authenticated finding is inflammation and edema of the facial nerve leading to entrapment inside the facial canal.

Evidence for an additive inhibitory component of contrast adaptation

open access: yes, 2012
The latency of visual responses generally decreases as contrast increases. Recording in the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN), we find that response latency increases with increasing contrast in ON cells for some visual stimuli.
