Surgical Anatomy Of The Geniculate Ganglion
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1975The position and the average dimensions of the geniculate ganglion have been measured with the Zeiss screw micrometer in 24 temporal bones obtained from the histological collection of the ENT department of the University of Zurich. The geniculate ganglion has been found to lie like a cup over the anterior portion of the genu of the VII nerve.

Facial nerve preservation in geniculate ganglion hemangiomas
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2014Facial nerve preservation was related to tumor size, and the patients with facial nerve preservation obtained better recovery. Hence it is necessary to perform surgical removal as soon as possible. To study facial nerve preservation in patients with geniculate ganglion (GG) hemangiomas.Twelve patients who had GG hemangiomas were managed at a single ...

Gustatory Neuron Types in Rat Geniculate Ganglion
Journal of Neurophysiology, 1999We used extracellular single-cell recording procedures to characterize the chemical and thermal sensitivity of the rat geniculate ganglion to lingual stimulation, and to examine the effects of specific ion transport antagonists on salt transduction mechanisms. Hierarchical cluster analysis of the responses from 73 single neurons to 3 salts (0.075 and 0.

Geniculate Ganglion Facial Palsy
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1965EVER since Ramsay Hunt's (1907)2description of the syndrome of facial palsy, herpetic rash in and around the ear on the same side often accompanied by a constitutional disturbance and sometimes by deafness and giddiness, there has been a tendency to think of a lesion of the nerve trunk at or near the geniculate ganglion only when the Ramsay Hunt ...

Herpetic geniculate ganglionitis
Acta Neuropathologica, 1962A case is described of a 76-year old woman with left-sided herpes oticus, herpes facialis and facial palsy. Post-mortem examination showed herpetic inflammation of the left Gasserian ganglion and geniculate ganglion. This is the first histological evidence of the involvement of the geniculate ganglion in herpes zoster oticus.

Herpes Zoster of the Geniculate Ganglion: Therapeutic Concepts
1994The usual severity of herpes zoster of the genigulate ganglion, or the Ramsay-Hunt syndrome, justifies a certain therapeutic agressiveness. Between 1986 and 1993, we treate 208 acute peripheral facial palsies, 37 of which were Ramsay-Hunt syndromes.

Classification of chemoresponsive tongue units of the cat geniculate ganglion
Brain Research, 1973Abstract Single unit recordings were taken from neurons in the geniculate ganglion of the anesthetized cat. Three groups of chemoresponsive tongue units were identified on the basis of spontaneous activity measures and response to chemical and electrical stimulation of the tongue.

Observations on the Geniculate Ganglion in Adult Human Dissections
1994The geniculate ganglion is of clinical importance because it is the site of the nerve cell bodies for the special sense of taste. Its location has been described in anatomy textbooks as being on the facial nerve at the point in the facial canal where the nerve bends sharply backwards laterally making a right angle. The name “geniculate” is derived from

Meningioma of geniculate ganglion: case report and review of the literature
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2012Although meningioma is a frequent intracranial tumor, it rarely affects the geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve. Facial palsy is the most common symptom. When hearing is preserved (class A or B, AAO-HNS), tumor is best removed through a middle cranial fossa approach.

Facial nerve hemangioma of the geniculate ganglion: An endoscopic surgical approach
Auris Nasus Larynx, 2014Facial nerve hemangiomas are rare benign tumors arising from the venous plexus surrounding the facial nerve. Surgical management of these tumors is controversial. The goal of surgery is complete tumor removal with restoration of facial nerve function and preservation of hearing, wherever possible.
