Biometrie sexual and ontogenetic dimorphism on the marine catfish Genidens genidens (Siluriformes, Ariidae) in a tropical estuary

open access: goldLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2015
This paper aims to study the ontogenetic sexual dimorphism of Genidens genidens in Guanabara Bay, southeastern coast of Brazil. Altogether 378 specimens were anayzed (233 females and 145 males) with total length ranging from 13.3 to 43.5 cm.

Population structure and habitat connectivity of Genidens genidens (Siluriformes) in tropical and subtropical coasts from Southwestern Atlantic [PDF]

open access: yesEstuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 2020
We use otolith trace element-to-calcium element concentraton ratios (Ba:Ca, Cu:Ca, Mg:Ca, Mn:Ca, Ni:Ca, Sr:Ca and Zn:Ca) and shape to evaluate the degree of segregation and presence of different nursery areas and fish stocks of Genidens genidens in the ...

Management proposal based on the timing of oral incubation of eggs and juveniles in the sentinel species Genidens genidens (Siluriformes: Ariidae) in a tropical estuary [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2018
Ariids such as Genidens genidens are particularly susceptible to overfishing because of their complex reproductive mechanisms, which result in slow replenishment of stocks.

Sexual dimorphism in the catfish Genidens genidens (Siluriformes: Ariidae) based on otolith morphometry and relative growth [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2019
Genidens genidens is a species susceptible to population declines in view of their reproductive biology peculiarities. Morphometric differences between sexes are observed in the literature, and these differences should also be evident in otolith ...

Morphology of sagitta, lapillus and asteriscus of Patagonian Genidens barbus

open access: yesMarine and Fishery Sciences, 2022
Otoliths are calcium carbonate structures, deposited as aragonite, located in the inner ear of bony fish. In recent years, they have become a useful tool for the determination of fish species, trophic content, age studies, and the identification of fish

Feeding habits and behaviour of Bagre bagre and Genidens barbus, two ariid catfishes (Pisces: Siluriformes) from southeastern Brazil

open access: goldJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2017
The feeding habits and behaviour of adult specimens of Bagre bagre (Linnaeus, 1766) and Genidens barbus (Lacepède, 1803), both targets of commercial fisheries in coastal southeastern Brazil, were evaluated through stomach content analysis.  These catfish

Biologia reprodutiva dos bagres marinhos Genidens genidens (Valenciennes) e Cathorops spixii (Agassiz) (Siluriformes, Ariidae), na Baía de Sepetiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil [PDF]

open access: diamondRevista Brasileira de Zoologia, 1999
The reproductive cycle of the marine catfishes Genidens genidens Valenciennes, 1833 and Cathorops spixii Agassiz, 1839 in the Sepetiba Bay, was assessed by an annual period of sampling from October 1993 to September 1994. The fishes were caught by standardized otter trawl and environmental parameters of temperature, salinity and transparency of water ...
